Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Illinois is very pleased to announce that Patricia Wharton was elected as Chairperson and President of the Board of Directors.
Patricia resides in Belleville and has served on the Board for 4 years. Her husband, Milton, is a retired Illinois Circuit Judge (20th Judicial Circuit). They have one daughter who is a graduate of Harvard University and is an Associate with the Boston Consulting Group in Chicago, IL.
Patricia obtained her Doctorate in Law from Cornell Law School in 1977 and graduated from Washington University in 1987 with a Master's in Business Administration. She earned her Undergraduate degree from Duke University.
She served as Associate General Counsel for Nestle-Purina before joining Greensfelder, Hemker, and Gale as Of Counsel. Patricia is very active in the local community and in addition to Big Brothers Big Sisters participates in several community organizations:
-ELB Enterprises, Inc.
-East St. Louis Chapter of the NAACP (Life Member)
-Gateway Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
-Silhouettes of East St. Louis Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
-St. Augustine of Hippo Catholic Church
She has been recognized for her community service with awards from Racial Harmony of Belleville and The Top Ladies of Distinction St. Louis Chapter.
Her focus as Chairperson of the Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters is to guide the agency through a broader and more active stewardship that assists hundreds of at-risk children in Southwestern Illinois. Patricia sums up her involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters: "The issues facing families today are very pressing. Growing up in today's society is difficult for any child, but those who face adversity in school, neighborhoods or challenged families, need every resource we can provide if we are going to make progress in becoming a more prosperous and successful region. Every child counts and every child deserves all the efforts and resources we can muster."
